Thank You!

bookThanks (1)

Just wanted to take a few moments to thank you for the overwhelming response to our last blog post.  The letters, phone calls, heart-to-heart’s, and visits were just the sort of shot in the arm we needed. Tallying up September’s numbers and hesitantly peeking through our fingers, we were relieved to find our shaky little boat had successfully navigated some decidedly rough waters to find ourselves sailing into October at a much more steady pace.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for visiting our weekly story times, for sharing in the fun at Family Fun Night, for attending book and documentary clubs, for choosing us to shop for that special birthday gift, for treating yourself to books, for calling us first to see if we had the book you wanted in stock and, if not, having us happily order a new copy for you, and for continuing to take advantage of the Trade for Credit Program. We’re still receiving over 100 titles a week, so there’s always something new waiting for you to discover on the shelf.  Did you know you can follow Afterwords Books on Pinterest?  We’re sharing new arrivals, upcoming events, what we’re reading, and lots more.  We’re loving all the new visitors to our facebook page as well-we’re just shy of our 1,000 likes milestone!

We’re super excited about all the great events we have planned in the coming months!   Along with our regularly scheduled Tuesday and Saturday story times, we’re looking forward to sharing Family Fun Night with you on October 29th, a Spooktacular Halloween Costume Party:

On October 22nd, we invite you to join us as we welcome Wendy and Jack Welch all the way from Big Stone Gap, Virginia for a friendly discussion of Wendy’s heart-warming and inspiring book, The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap:  A Memoir of Friendship, Community, and the Uncommon Pleasure of a Good Book.  As is true of all our book club discussions, there’s the promise of titillating discussion, good company, and plenty of spirits and nibbles on hand. We would love for you to join us, bring a friend, and something tasty to share.

We’re also tickled pink to announce that our children’s book club, Bookworm Buddies, is still going strong and we continue to grow, introducing two more book clubs for the younger set, Readers Roundup, and Chapter Chatter.  New members are always welcome!

We’re still proud participants of the circle of merchants, Once Upon a Town,  committed to nurturing our community by donating a portion of our sales on the 14th of each month to benefit a local charity.  This month we’ll be participating on October 12th (as we’re closed on Mondays!) to benefit The Children’s Museum.

Finally, save the date for our Holiday Open House on Saturday, November 16th!  We’ll be decking the halls and treating you to 20% off your entire purchase, complimentary hot cocoa and freshly baked treats, some fantastic giveaways, and free gift wrapping.  Join us as we celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30am, and for a special event as we welcome Chef Clara Moore at 4pm to celebrate the release of her new book, Shop Like A Chef:  A Food Lover’s Guide To St. Louis Neighborhoods.  COVER_FINAL
