Congratulations to Julie Roberts Wilkinson for correctly guessing Afterwords Books’ new location at 232 S Buchanan ST, just across the street from Annie’s Frozen Custard and a few doors down from Swing City Music!
We are beyond excited about our new home. The new space offers designated parking (!) for our customers- now you can take advantage of our Trade For Credit Program without having to haul boxes of books for blocks-, and a much more cozy, inviting space to curl up with a good read and enjoy a hot cup of coffee/tea and something freshly baked and delicious to nibble on while you browse. Our new home boasts wood floors, high ceilings, and lots of windows. This book store is the kind of shop we would want to visit and we’re confident you will fall in love with the new space just as we have!
We are especially excited about the room we’re carving out for our weekly story times (we’re adding another story time on Thursday mornings!), American Girl Club meetings, monthly Bookworm Buddies book club, and there are plans to host birthday parties and build-baby’s-library baby showers. Our new story time room has a bay window, complete with a window seat designed just for little ones to perch on!
We will most likely be at our current location downtown until mid-April, assuming we don’t find an interested party to take over our lease before that time. We encourage everyone to visit us now and take advantage of our fantastic moving sale. Did you know that with your current store credit balance, you can score paperbacks for $1 and hardcovers for $2.50??!! We are also reluctantly selling several of our bookshelves as we will have to custom-build new ones to fit our new space.
We’re still happily accepting books to trade for credit as well. Please bring your gently-loved classics, literature, and poetry books, children’s and YA titles, graphic novels, cookbooks, gardening, decorating, and craft titles, history, philosophy, art/music/humor, and science books, and any and all books that have been published within the last two years to help stock our new shelves. The only books we will no longer be able to make room for are general fiction titles (horror, mysteries, historical fiction, westerns, fantasy/sci-fiction)- again, we will still take these genres in provided they’ve been published within the last two years or are award-winning (ie, Pulitzer, Nobel).
Check back with us often as we’ll be sharing before and after photos of the process of moving, remodeling and setting up the new store with you. We have a tentative date of May 4th planned for our grand re-opening celebration. As chaotic as things are with the move, we are positively giddy and cannot wait to open up our doors to our little bookstore family, welcoming long-time, loyal customers as well as new ones!
